The Coronation Hospital emergency department will be closed for 26 hours beginning on May 1 due to a cited “gap” in physician coverage.

Beginning at 6 a.m. on May 1, the closure will run until 8 a.m. on May 2.

The release announcing the closure states that nursing staff will remain on-site to provide first-aid and triage as necessary for anyone who walks in.

Anyone needing emergency care during the closure is asked to call 911 or go to an emergency department at a neighbouring facility in Hanna, Castor, or Stettler.

Residents in the facility’s Long Term Care will not be affected by the closure and will remain in place unless emergency care or acute care is required.

As an alternative, those needing non-emergent medical advice can contact Alberta Health Link at 811. The service is available 24 hours a day for non-emergency, health-related questions.
